Maintenance Director Job Summary:
The Maintenance Director is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the daily operations of the school district’s maintenance department to ensure that all district facilities, equipment, and grounds are safe, functional, and well-maintained. This position supervises maintenance personnel and manages the scheduling and completion of routine, preventive, and emergency maintenance tasks in compliance with district policies and applicable safety regulations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervise, schedule, and direct the work of maintenance and custodial staff.
- Plan, assign, and inspect maintenance work orders for buildings, equipment, and grounds to ensure timely and quality completion.
- Maintain an organized system for receiving, prioritizing, and tracking maintenance work orders.
- Conduct regular inspections of district facilities and grounds to identify and address maintenance needs.
- Ensure that district properties are maintained in compliance with local, state, and federal safety, health, and building codes.
- Initiates and directs district-wide preventive maintenance programs for HVAC, electrical, plumbing, roofing, and other systems.
- Manage inventory of maintenance supplies, tools, and equipment; order materials as needed within budget guidelines.
- Assist in the development and oversight of department budgets related to maintenance and repairs.
- Collaborate with school principals and district administrators to address maintenance needs and facility improvements.
- Respond to maintenance emergencies and after-hours issues as needed.
- Ensure proper operation and safety of maintenance equipment and vehicles.
- Maintain accurate records and reports related to maintenance activities, inspections, and compliance.
- Provide training and guidance to maintenance personnel on safety procedures, equipment operation, and work standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Operations or Superintendent.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or GED required; technical training or certification in maintenance trades preferred.
- Maintenance experience, including supervisory responsibilities, preferably in a school district or public sector setting.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of maintenance and repair procedures for HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and general building systems.
- Strong leadership and personnel management skills.
- Ability to plan, prioritize, and oversee multiple projects and work assignments.
- Proficiency in using maintenance management systems and basic computer applications.
- Knowledge of safety regulations, building codes, and environmental health standards.
- Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with district personnel, vendors, contractors, and the public.
- Ability to respond to after-hours emergencies when needed.
- Class B CDL with school bus and passenger endorsement, or ability to obtain such license.
